Tools Of The Trade : Essential Eye Makeup Brushes

The products you use play a significant role in the success of your makeup application.

That being said, in my opinion, the tools you use are even more important.

Using a large powder brush to apply your eyeshadow will definitely not give you that desired smokey eye, and using a flat eyeshadow brush to apply your foundation might be a little frustrating. That is why the right tools at the right time make all the difference.

Essential Brushes for Creating an Eye Look:

1. Blending eyeshadow brush

Sigma E40

No matter what look I am creating on my eyes, the first brush I use is a round fluffy brush to apply my first crease color. It is perfect for distributing the color evenly and blending out any other eyeshadow that I place on top. Typically I prefer this brush to be big enough to easily blend the eyeshadow above my crease, yet not too big that it will distribute the color all over my eyelid.

2. Crease defining brush

The very next brush I grab is something smaller, usually slightly denser, and typically comes to a point at the tip.

With all of those attributes, it makes it very easy to place a darker color in my crease to define the eyes. It also helps if it is still somewhat fluffy, so in the applying process no harsh lines are created.

3. Brush for packing on lid color

Sigma E52

To achieve the best color impact on your mobile eyelid, you will want to use a flat, dense eyeshadow brush. Using a fluffy brush for this step would create a messy appearance and definitely not pack on the color as efficiently, whereas using a brush with compacted, flat bristles allows more control when placing the shadow.

If you have not been able to achieve the eyeshadow looks you envision, I would highly suggest making sure the tools you are using are effective. Although many looks may appear complex and difficult to achieve, with these three brushes almost any eye shadow look can be accomplished.
